Alice Sinigaglia is an International Economics graduate with a Master in International Relations and Human Rights. She has 10+ year experience in EU and national policies and initiatives in the field of public procurement, trade, development cooperation, and social affairs. Since 2015, she has also been monitoring and contributing to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In the last 5 years, she has conducted 4 researches aiming at gathering good practices on how local authorities can promote sustainable development through public procurement and other relevant local policies.

Anjali Schiavina

National Coordinator Fair Trade Towns India

Anjali is a social entrepreneur and internationally recognised for the company she founded, Mandala Apparels, the pioneer in manufacturing sustainable fashion.

Presently she consults with businesses to promote leadership for sustainable business and responsible supply chains.

In 2019 she has been appointed as the National Coordinator for the Fair Trade towns India project. Her strengths are in conceptualizing and implementing projects and campaigns for sustainable development.

Anneli Örtqvist

Head of Fairtrade City and Fairtrade Region, Fairtrade Sweden

Fairtrade City and Fairtrade Region in Sweden are part of the international Fair Trade Town Campaign. There are currently 49 municipalities and three regions that are a Fairtrade City and Fairtrade Region.

Anneli Örtqvist has the overall responsibility for Fairtrade City and Fairtrade Region since 4 years and led a review and developement of the national campaign in close dialogue with representatives from Fairtrade Citys and Fairtrade Regions around the country. Her background is in business and leadership for sustainable development. She is passionate about being part of a transition for a more fair and sustainable future, where regions, municipalities, local businesses and civil society join forces to make a long lasting difference.

Benoit Berger

Program Director at Fair Trade Lebanon

Benoit is the director of Fair Trade Lebanon, to the creation of which he has actively contributed in 2006. Involved since 30 years in the field of international solidarity, he shared his career between France and Lebanon. Fair Trade Lebanon initiative was based on the observation that Lebanese women of rural communities have strong but underemployed skills and potential.
The founders decided to use fair trade as a means to promote local expertise in food processing and to generate revenues for disadvantaged rural communities by creating marketing opportunities for small producers and women processing cooperatives. Fair Trade Lebanon is collaborating with 50 production units – mainly cooperatives – providing jobs to 1.400 producers, including vulnerable communities (Lebanese and refugees).

Billy Linstead Goldsmith

Director Fair Trade Campaigns US

Billy Linstead Goldsmith came to Fair Trade Campaigns from an eight year career in the grassroots environmental movement. He recruited, trained and developed hundreds of grassroots leaders and facilitated campaigns on national, statewide, and local campaigns. He has mobilized fence-line communities, organized public hearings, and led other local actions to hold polluters and politicians accountable. Upon traveling with his wife, Rachel to Venezuela, Billy was inspired to focus his career on international justice and embraced the opportunity to contribute to the Fair Trade movement.

Since becoming the first full-time Director of Fair Trade Campaigns in 2009, Billy has grown the program from 18 community-based efforts to over 300 local advocacy campaigns, including the launch of Fair Trade Colleges & Universities in 2010, which has grown to over 150 campuses across the country.

Bruce Crowther

Founder Fair Trade Towns Movement and Oxfam activist

He now serves as Executive Director for the FIG Tree producing delicious fair trade chocolate and was the International Fair Trade Towns Ambassador for the International Fair Trade Towns Steering Committee for many years.
A vet by profession, Bruce Crowther is an experienced activist who began campaigning for Oxfam in 1984. A fervent and vocal Fair Trade campaigner, who managed to persuade his fellow residents in the small market town of Garstang to declare itself the world’s first Fair Trade Town in 2000.
In 2009, he was awarded an MBE in the New Year honours list for services to Fair Trade and Oxfam. The honour recognises his work supporting developing countries through Fair Trade Towns, Oxfam and the twinning link between his hometown of Garstang in Lancashire and New Koforidua in Ghana.

Charlotte Knull

Lotte (Charlotte) Knull has been working at fairafric for 3 years. Starting as an intern and working student, she has been working permanently in sales for 2 years. She oversees the key accounts in the organic sector, introduces new organic stores and wholesalers to fairafric and helps them to rethink fair trade. She also attends trade fairs and gives lectures on value creation in the country of origin. Lotte Knull is also a member of the supervisory board of fairafric AG.

Charlotte Lonitz

FairActivist (Germany)

Charlotte Lonitz is member of the first generation of the FairActivists, a movement of young pupils, students and professionals advocating for fairer trade in Germany, that was initiated by Fairtrade Germany in 2021. She is currently doing her master’s degree in International Development at the University of Vienna (Austria) specializing in sustainable trade and value chains.

As the recipient of a scholarship from the Ministry of Development and Economic Cooperation Charlotte Lonitz has worked with certified coffee farmers in Rwanda which gave her first-hand insights in the working and living realities of smallholder coffee farmers in the Global South. Charlotte Lonitz is passionate about volunteering to raise more awareness about the impact of our consumption on people and the environment around the globe.

Claire Arnott

Senior Education Campaigns Officer, Fairtrade Foundation, UK

Claire Arnott produces education resources for schools on the topics of climate justice, globalisation, trade, ethical consumption and sustainability. She has a Masters in Education and International Development from the UCL Institute of Education. Claire was previously a Primary Teacher in Aberdeen (Scotland) and has also taught in Romania, Italy, Finland and Uganda. She joined the Fairtrade Foundation in August 2019 to champion global learning for a more just, sustainable and compassionate world.

Daniel Dubas

Delegate of the Federal Council for the 2030 Agenda and Head of the Sustainable Development Section of the ARE

Daniel Dubas studied political science and urban planning at the University of Lausanne. He has served as Delegate of the Federal Council for the 2030 Agenda and member of the Management Board since April 2019. He has headed the Federal Office for Spatial Development’s (ARE) Sustainable Development Section since 2013, having previously supported the Federal Council’s Sustainable Development Strategy as Programme Manager from 2009 onwards. Between 2007 and 2009, he was Project Manager at the Sustainable Development Coordination Unit of the Canton of Vaud.

Daniela Vancic

European Programm Manager at Democracy International

Daniela Vancic is the European Programme Manager at Democracy International, an NGO that promotes stronger citizens’ participation in political decision making. Daniela has five years of on-hands campaign- and network-building experience, and for the last four years, she has been carrying out the European campaigns and projects of Democracy International. She received her bachelor’s degree at Michigan State University and holds a master’s in international relations from Geneva School of Diplomacy and International Relations. Before joining the team of Democracy International, she worked as a campaign manager for the Michigan Democratic Party and in the human rights department of the Serbian Mission to the United Nations in Geneva.

With a background in environmental policy, Delphine Williot is passionate about transforming the fashion industry into a fairer, more equitable and environmentally-conscious sector. Delphine Williot’s work includes the Fashion Transparency Index and an upcoming EU-wide campaign on living wages for garment workers.

Didier Reynaud

Didier Reynaud moved from France to Brussel in 2019 to become an Accredited Parliamentary assistant. He has been involved and committed to Fair Trade for more than 10 years in different kinds of jobs and volunteering such as, commercial and sales, photographer, entrepreneurship, journalism, teaching, research, and management of projects. He is part of the FTAO for the EU WISE for young citizens and consumers and part of the Young Fair trade Advocates team. In addition, he is an indipendent consultant and recently worked on a North to North desk study and on a Public Policy on fair Trade study for Fair Trade International and the FTAO.

Francesca Novello

Francesca Novello is project officer within ICLEI’s Sustainable Economy and Procurement team joining ICLEI in September 2020. Francesca is involved in a number of projects on procurement. Prior to ICLEI she completed her legal professional traineeship in Italy, specialising in Administrative Law and Public Procurement. Following on from that, she conducted a traineeship at the European Investment Bank as a procurement analyst within the Energy Department of the Projects Directorate. She holds a Master’s Degree in International, European and Comparative Law, which she obtained at the University of Trento (Italy) in 2017. She also conducted a trimester of research on Public Procurement at the Centre for Public Procurement and PPP of the University of Lodz (Poland).

Gavin Fridell

Canada Research Chair and Professor, International Development Studies Program

Gavin Fridell is a Professor and Canada Research Chair in International Development Studies at Saint Mary’s University and a member of the Royal Society of Canada’s College of New Scholars. He has written widely on fair trade and free trade, and his publications include Coffee (2014), Alternative Trade: Legacies for the Future (2013), and the recent co-edited book, The Fair Trade Handbook: Building a Better World, Together (2021). He is a member of the Advisory Board of the Canadian Fair Trade Network (CFTN) and lives in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Isabelle Durant

Deputy Secretary-General of UNCTAD

Isabelle Durant took up the position of Deputy Secretary-General on 3 July 2017. She served as Acting Secretary-General from 16 February to 12 September 2021. Since she joined UNCTAD, Ms. Durant has relentlessly contributed to making international trade more inclusive and greener. She has also been an advocate for gender equality. Ms. Durant has been heavily involved in the socio-economic response of the UN to the coronavirus crisis and has led the work of UNCTAD in this area. A former vice prime minister and senator of Belgium as well as vice president of the European parliament, Ms. Durant possesses solid experience in public affairs, intergovernmental processes and providing concrete assistance to countries. She is well known for her acute skills in empowering people, addressing vulnerabilities at local and national levels and supporting governments towards good governance and sustainable policies. Ms. Durant also served as minister of transport and energy in Belgium for four years. As vice president of the European Parliament for the period 2009 to 2014, Ms. Durant chaired different permanent delegations.

Jatta Makkula

Specialist, Civil Society and Public Procurement

Jatta Makkula is Finland’s national Fairtrade Town campaign coordinator. She is also leading the national Fairtrade university, school and parish campaigns. She started working at Fairtrade Finland in 2007. Fairtrade Finland has been campaigning at the national Municipal Elections in 2017 and 2021 together with other sustainability certifications for sustainable public procurements. She is also representing Europe at the International Fair Trade Town Steering Committee.

Jiyun Jeon

Jiyun Jeon currently works at Sunkonghoe University as a visiting professor and a researcher. Before she joined  university, she has worked in a Fair Trade company in Korea for 4 years as a production manager. Mostly she work with handicraft producers living in Nepal. Jonas Meier

Activist in the climate-strike movement, Switzerland

For Jonas Meier, social and ecological issues have been an important concern since childhood and he got involved in the local Fair Trade shop at the age of twelve. In view of the climate crisis as one of the greatest challenges of today, he has been active in the climate strike since the beginning of the movement and in recent years has gained a lot of experience in building local structures for a grassroots movement, organizing demonstrations and, most recently, in actions of civil disobedience.

Kadun Rees

Kadun Rees has recently joined the Fair Trade family. He is studying MSc Conflict, Security and Development at the University of Sussex and has an interest in global issues, particularly climate change and decolonising development. Kadun enjoys working with communities in Wales, and trying new Fairtrade coffee.

Kelly Hawrylyshyn

Senior Advisor Global Resource Mobilisation at Fairtrade International

Kelly Hawrylyshyn is Fairtrade International’s Senior Advisor on Global Resource Mobilization. She supported the Fairtrade system to secure over EUR15 million to support producer organisations affected by COVID19. She has extensive experience in project management, partnership development and fundraising – and secured Fairtrade International’s Framework Partnership Agreement with the EU. Prior to joining Fairtrade, Kelly worked at Plan International as Resilience Advisor supporting its network to deliver climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction work through a child centred and gender inclusive approach.  She holds a Masters in International Relations and a Bachelors in Business Management.

Lea Salameh

Graduate student in Food Security

Lea Salameh is a graduate student in Food Security at the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences at the American University of Beirut (AUB) with a foundation in Agribusiness. In light of the rising vulnerability amongst the population in Lebanon, especially in rural areas, Lea Salameh’s thesis focuses on “Youth, Economic Crisis, and ‘The Return To The Land’: The Case of Agriculture and Livestock Farming in West Bekaa”. This coincides with her latest professional experience as an assistant project coordinator for the Women Economic Participation project at the Environment and Sustainable Development Unit. One of WEP project outcomes is to contribute to the empowerment of vulnerable Lebanese and Syrian women in Lebanon by providing them with access to technical and soft skill trainings across agricultural and non-agricultural value chains. Working with marginalized communities allowed Lea Salameh to develop an understanding of inclusivity from both an academic and proactive standpoints, as well as gain experience and valuable lessons within her field.

Malte Gallée

Sustainability Activist

Malte Gallée ran for the European Parliament in 2019 and is the first successor from Bündnis90/Die Grünen. Through his voluntary ecological year in Tanzania and his studies of philosophy and economics in Bayreuth, he grew interested in fair globalisation and cosmopolitan ethics. He believes that regulating trade practices in global supply chains is essential to mitigating the climate crisis. He currently works in fundraising for UNHCR and Amnesty International in Berlin.

Manfred Bischof

Manfred Bischof is a graduate engineer (FH), specialising in electronics, measurement and control technology, as well as an industrial engineer. He has been mayor of Vaduz, the capital of Liechtenstein, since 2019. Prior to that, he worked for the Liechtenstein National Administration, where he was Deputy Head of the Office for Construction and Infrastructure. As mayor, sustainability issues are of great concern to him. He is convinced that even small communities and cities can make a big difference when it comes to sustainability.

Marie-Claire Graf

Swiss youth advocate for climate action

Marie-Claire Graf advocates for a just transition to sustainable development and ambitious climate action through her diverse involvement in various initiatives at the local, national and international levels. She is passionate about inspiring and empowering youth to take meaningful, impactful and positive action to create momentum for change. She initiated and leads several associations and movements around climate action, sustainable development, youth and women empowerment, food systems transformation and education, such as Sustainability Week International or United Nations Youth Group for Climate.

Mikkel Kofod Nørgård

Regional Coordinator WFTO

Mikkel Kofod Nørgård comes from Denmark and holds a Master’s degree in International Studies from University of Aarhus in Denmark, where he focused in particular on inequality both within and between countries. He was Junior Project Officer at WFTO-Europe from September 2018, and since September 2020 he became the Regional Coordinator. He represents the roughly 115 European members of WFTO. He promotes Fair Trade as an alternative model for making business, in general, more sustainable and he believes Fair Trade is one of the necessary elements to ensure a truly sustainable future for all.

Miriam Elizabeth Pérez Zelaya

Representative of Fair Trade Towns Latin America including Mexico & Caribbean

Miriam Elizabeth Pérez Zelaya is a Primary Education Teacher and Agricultural Engineer, with diplomas in Project Management and Social Market Economy.

In addition, she is a producer of organic, biodynamic and pranic specialty coffee. She is qualified to teach in agricultural technical assistance, organizational strengthening, gender, project design and management, local economic development, business plans and is knowledgeable about coffee certification standards, to be in differentiated market niches. She works in the company: Café Orgánico Marcala S. A. de C.V. “COMSA” as manager of certifications and the program: Together We Clean Marcala, being responsible for the operation of the internal control system “SIC”.

She was born in Marcala, La Paz, Honduras CA and is the third generation of a coffee-producing family and tries to give back the knowledge she has received, working with women, youth and children.

Monica Rubiolo

Head of Trade Promotion at the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO)

Monica Rubiolo is Head of Trade Promotion at the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) since August 2016. She leads SECO’s efforts to foster trade in developing countries that is socially responsible, environmentally friendly, inclusive and thereby sustainable. Monica Rubiolo obtained her PhD from the University of Tübingen, Germany and has published extensively on economic development related issues. She was Assistant Professor at the Catholic University in Cordoba (Argentina) and has also taught at the Universities of Tübingen (Germany) and Bilbao (Spain). She has worked in Taipei, Taiwan and at the European Institute of Latin American Studies (IRELA) in Madrid. She joined SECO in 2003, focusing on issues related to public financial management and financial sector support, heading SECO’s Macroeconomic Support section between 2009 and 2016.

Nyagoy Nyong’o

Nyagoy Nyong’o is global CEO of Fairtrade International. She is responsible for the worldwide coordination of national Fairtrade organizations and producer networks. Previously she led the Fairtrade Africa regional producer network as Executive Director. She has a wealth of experience in the Fairtrade sector, as well as hands-on management experience in the humanitarian and development sectors. She has held senior management positions with several NGO’s and has worked in many different African countries, Switzerland and the U.S.  In her earlier career, she taught forestry at Moi University, in Kenya, and was also a researcher at the Forest Research Institute of Ghana. She holds a PhD in Forest Biology-Wood Science and MSc.

Paola Plaku

Project Management and Fundraising Assistant WFTO

With a background in international relations, Paola Plaku, from Italy, is obsessed with inequalities and injustices. She believes that extreme poverty and development are not isolated issues, but that they are global ones that concern all of us. To tackle these issues, she has joined the ONE youth ambassadors’ program to fight extreme poverty and amplify her voice. Currently, she is working as Project Management and Fundraising Assistant at WFTO-E, where she is learning that through Fair Trade, it is possible to have a fairer, more equitable, and environmentally conscious society by prioritizing people and the planet over profit.

Through his successful career in various industries and countries, he has acquired in-depth knowledge of sustainable development, trade, communication and development cooperation. Through his professional experience in the consumer goods market, he knows the purchasing decisions of Swiss consumers just as well as the working conditions in developing countries.

Philippe Schenkel

Philippe has a background in environmental sciences and management. Prior to joining gebana he has founded an ran an organic juice company and was the agriculture and food campaigner for Greenpeace Switzerland.

Pieter Fourie

Fair Root Estate, South Africa

Pieter Fourie’s journey with Fairtrade started when the farm he was working for got the opportunity to become part of the network. After a few years of experience on this farm as well as attending the first Fairtrade Africa  continental youth convention in Kenya, he became the manager of the Fair Root Estate. This is a wine farm in the Western Cape and the first Fairtrade premium project of Lutzville Vineyards. He believes that through cooperative effort we can achieve great heights for society as a whole

Roopa Mehta

President of the WFTO

Roopa Mehta is the president of the WFTO and leads the Sasha Association for Craft Producers (India), an exemplary WFTO member selling fashion and home products around the world. Her association with Fair Trade began in 1978 and she moved over full time to Sasha in 1985. She has served on the board of Fair Trade Forum India and the Asia WFTO board. She was voted on to the WFTO Global board as an independent board member in May 2011. Roopa Mehta completed an Economic honours course, followed with an MBA degree from Delhi University.

Sagrario Angulo

Coordinator of the Ecuadorian Consortium for Fair Trade

Sagrario Angulo serves as the coordinator of the Ecuadorian Consortium for Fair Trade. She is part of the local committee Quito Cuidad por el Comercio Justo, whose efforts led to Quito’s declaration as a Fair Trade Town in 2016. Quito was the first Latin American capital city to earn this designation.

She is the general accountant for the Ecuadorian Popular Progressive Fund (FEPP), a private enterprise that supports local development through training, credit and technical assistance. In addition, she is the general manager of Camari, a store that sells local agricultural and handicraft products in support of FEPP’s mission to empower small producers in Ecuador.

Santiago Guarderas Izquierdo

Mayor of Quito

Santiago Guarderas Izquierdo, the Mayor of Quito,  is a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador. Specialist in Procedural Law and Master in Procedural Law from the Universidad Católica de Santiago de Guayaquil. He was dean and professor of the Faculty of Jurisprudence of the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador (PUCE).

He is active in academic and trade union relevant issues in Ecuador. In the public sphere, he was a deputy for the province of Pichincha in the National Congress.

Sergi Corbalán

Sergi Corbalán is the Executive Director of the Fair Trade Advocacy Office (FTAO), a joint Fair Trade movement initiatives, based in Brussels. He leads the FTAO since 2009 and counts with 20 years of experience in senior advice and advocacy at EU and International level on topics linked to sustainable development. Sergi Corbalán was born in Barcelona and studied Law and International Politics in Barcelona, Geneva and Brussels.

Stanislav Komínek

Campaign manager and documentary filmmaker Fairtrade Česko a Slovensko

Stanislav Komínek graduated from the Faculty of Education at Masaryk University, devoted himself to education, worked on the introduction of a new probation social service and then spent 12 years working on the topic of working conditions in the world. His documentary ‘In the shadow of the cocoa tree’ has won an award by FAO at the Agrofilm film festival for the best adaptation of an international theme. He currently leads awareness raising campaigns and education at Fairtrade Czechia and Slovakia.

Stefan Niethammer

Co-founder of 3FREUNDE

Stefan is co-founder of 3FREUNDE, one of the leading companies of fairtrade textiles. As co-founder of a CMT unit in India, he has a very thorough understanding of the cotton supply-chain and the dynamics and future challenges of the textile industry. He is happy to share his insights as a lecturer at the University of Konstanz as well as in workshops and seminars.

As part of 3FREUNDE he is also pushing the industry in the Partnership for Sustainable Textiles and introduced the Green Button as one of the first companies to all 3FREUNDE-labeled products.

Stefano Toma

Stefano Toma is Fairtrade Italia’s Project and Advocacy Manager. He has been working at Fairtrade Italy for 5 years, he led the process of accreditation of Fairtrade Italia at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as an international cooperation organization. He has experience in project management and fundraising, and has gained experience in the field of policy review processes related to the fair trade sector. He worked at Equo Garantito as project manager for EU programs, and has 10 years experience in the Italian Fair Trade sector.

Taryn Lemmon

Campaigns and Communications Coordinator Fair Trade Campaigns US

Taryn Lemmon is so excited to be working full-time with Fair Trade Campaigns as the Campaigns & Communications Coordinator. Her love for Fair Trade started in 2017 when she worked as her university’s Sustainability Coordinator and continued when she became a Fair Trade Campaigns Regional Fellow in 2018-2019, then part-time, temporary Eastern Region Coordinator then National Coordinating Fellow. Taryn hopes to use this new role of Campaigns & Communications Coordinator to help expand the Fair Trade movement across the country even during a tumultuous time.  If you see Taryn outside of work you’ll find her reading, advocating for social justice issues, and spending time in nature with her beloved dog, Elvis.

Thembi Mnisi

Ms Thembi Mnisi is the Project Co-Ordinator for the Fair Trade City of Drakenstein (South Africa) campaign which launched on 31 April 2021. After studying Animal Science and working in research for 7 years she moved to business development where she was exposed to the effects of businesses and communities on the environment. Tobias Meier

Project Manager ecos and President of Swiss Fair Trade

Tobias holds the position of Senior Project Manager on the ‘Green Economy’ team. His main field of focus is business models along the sustainable textile supply chain, which extends all the way from the organic cotton fields in West Africa to the consumers. Tobias Meier is also the President of Swiss Fair Trade, the industry organisation representing parties involved in fair trade in Switzerland, and a Member of the Management Board of Gebana, a fair trade association.
